I began working as a construction laborer in the summer of 1962 and liked it, so I worked every summer and decided to go to Clemson’s School of Building Construction. After graduation I was a Field Superintendent for 5 years. In 1975 My wife and I started Gilbert Construction Co. We built spec houses for approximately 5 years and made the transition to commercial construction in about 1980. Since that time, we have worked on historic renovations in Durham, NC, Savannah, GA and Florence, SC. We’ve done jobs as large as $20,000,000 and worked in and around the Pee Dee and Coastal South Carolina for the last 50 years.
